The Enchanting Charms of Cadaqués

To arrive at Cadaqués from Figueres we embarked on a picturesque route that winds its way through the stunning landscapes of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. We drove along the narrow coastal roads, with breathtaking views of the rugged cliffs, azure waters, and charming seaside villages.

The journey offers glimpses of olive groves, vineyards, and quaint Catalan houses nestled amidst the hills. As you approach Cadaqués, the winding road leads you through the dramatic mountain terrain, enhancing the anticipation of reaching this hidden gem on the Mediterranean coast.

During our stay, we were fortunate to find a small apartment with private parking, which made our visit hassle-free. This picturesque coastal town is known for its beauty, with charming alleys, a plethora of restaurants, bars, and stores that create a vibrant and lively atmosphere.

Cadaqués is a haven for food lovers, offering a wide range of culinary options. Among the delightful choices, we discovered an ice cream shop that not only provided delicious treats but also catered to special dietary needs (Sa Gelateria Cadaqués). They offered gluten-free cones and vegan ice cream, which was a wonderful find for my wife. It was a joy to indulge in these delightful treats while exploring the town.

In the heart of Cadaqués, we discovered the Plaça del Passeig, where in the restaurant Cadaq’s my wife enjoyed an amazing "Galettes au Sarrasin''. These savory buckwheat crepes were simply mouthwatering and a must-try culinary experience in the town. I indulged myself with a pulled pork/cheddar/coleslaw hotdog that was amazing.

The waterfront in Cadaqués boasts public beaches as Platja Gran and Platja des Poal where visitors can relax and enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Bathing in the sea and soaking up the sun is a must-do activity while in this coastal paradise. The beach provides a perfect setting for unwinding and immersing oneself in the beauty of the surroundings.

While strolling through the streets of Cadaqués, you'll come across the charming Church of Santa Maria de Cadaqués, which dates back to the 16th century. This historic church offers a glimpse into the town's rich heritage and is worth a visit. As you wander further, you'll discover several viewpoints that provide stunning vistas of the bay, allowing you to take in the breathtaking scenery.

Dali's house at Portlligat, located just a 20-minute walk from the charming town of Cadaqués, offers a delightful and enriching experience for both adults and kids. As you explore the unique spaces and quirky decor of the house, kids will be captivated by the imaginative world of Salvador Dalí. The eccentricities and artistic elements found throughout the house ignite their curiosity and stimulate their creativity. It's a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn about Dalí's unconventional approach to art and gain a deeper appreciation for his unique style.

Additionally, the location of Dali's house at Portlligat provides an added bonus for visitors – the chance to take a refreshing swim or bath in the bay. The tranquil bay offers a peaceful and picturesque setting for relaxation and fun water activities. It's the perfect way to round off a visit to Dali's house, combining cultural exploration with a refreshing dip in the sea, creating unforgettable memories for the whole family.

After soaking up the beauty of Cadaqués for two days, it was time to bid farewell to Spain and venture into France. With cherished memories of picturesque landscapes, charming streets, and tranquil beaches, we embarked on the next leg of our journey, eager to explore the wonders that awaited us across the border.
